AN ANNIVERSARY EDITION THERMOVENT IN A THATCHED MANOR INGLENOOK

This thatched manor house on the Norfolk Broads was being renovated before the customer moved in. This beautiful Inglenook fireplace was in what would be the dinning room. As a listed property heat output was a requirement and this efficiency. The customer had tried the fire and it smoked with the orginal canopy. This Anniversary Edition Thermovent with optional fish tail rate front and decorative join on the canopy not only enhanced the appearance but also cured the smoke issue.

CREATING A ‘STAR’ COPPER CANOPY THIS CLIENT HAD LONG DREAMED OF

This customer had dreamed of an unbeaten copper canopy and fire grate like her grandparents had for years – and finally they had moved into a house in Surrey where she could realise her fireplace ideas. She was so particular and excited throughout the project especially when it was installed and lit. Hugs all round which was great to be part of. This hand-made copper canopy was created in an Inglenook style with hand rolled seams and domed copper rivet covers. As with all our copper or brass canopies it is formed over an inner steel buck which also protects the copper from the worst of the heat which reduces discolouration (and thus the need to polish!) It sits over a cast iron swans nest fire grate with a pair of hand forged spit dog irons.

A BEAUTIFUL SOLUTION TO A LONG STANDING OPEN FIRE PROBLEM

This rambling old farm house rennovation was really taking shape when our customer contacted us. She explained they had almost given up trying to get the fireplace to work in this very large Inglenook so were desperate for some open fireplace ideas that could work! You will note the very tall piles of bricks on which the customer had ‘perched’ the fire basket in the ‘before’ photo to try to get it to work. Our solution was to design a large Twin Skin canopy in an inglenook style in hand scored steel. It sits above a plain 3 bar fire basket with a cast iron fire back to protect the bricks to the rear. We also included a flue baffle control to close off the chimney when not in use to reduce heat loss from the central heating when the fire is not lit.

FILLING THE ROOM WITH THE GLOW OF FLAMES ON COPPER

This red brick Inglenook in a beautifully renovated cottage originally featured a steel canopy the customer had made previously. It had always smoked so was never used. Our high Performance Thermovent with hand beaten copper canopy cured the smoke problem and introduced a warmth to the room even when the fire isn’t lit – which is now is  – often.
