Open fires can be efficient and give good heat output but that’s not the whole story. With a convection system built into its design our Thermovent woodburning open fire shares that heat around the room much more effectively than any fire or stove that doesn’t have one.
Thermovents efficiency comes from the design of the flue passages within the fire. By ensuring the hot gases from the fire linger as long as possible within Thermovent they pass their heat to the heat exchangers within the convection system and on into the room.

Today many of those working in the area of building control are aware that open fires and flue systems are an area where specialist responsibilities have been devolved to HETAS approved installers and they often simply defer to this in respect of signing off an open fire or flue / chimney system.
Involving an open fires specialist such as ourselves in your project from the earliest point will maximise the options you can present to your customer with confidence and minimise the risk of sign off issues in the final stages of the project. This approach will also enable you to manage budgets and client expectations. Regarding installation we have a limited capacity to introduce specialist installers we have worked with, but we also have extensive hands on experience we can bring to bear on your project.

Whilst many of the canopies, fire grates and dog irons and Thermovents we design and create are for traditional fireplace and chimney situations we can also respond to more challenging briefs. Below are a few examples:
Restoration and extension of a castle
The beatuful family home had 7 open fires and 1 stove which we took ownership of delivering solutions that met the technical brief and the clients very specific design brief. This included two manufactured flue system designs of 600mm diameter to serve two 1500mm wide canopies, five fire grate commissions, two club fenders commissions plus two other fires. We liaised with the contractor, the architects and interior designers
‘Theatre’ centre piece fireplace for a gastro eatery
Working through a specialist brand consultancy we specified, designed and created this centre piece four sided open fire around the theme of a forge. The Canopy has an antique leather rusted effect sitting above a fire pit with integrated fire guards. We advised on the flue fan specification and air vent provision.
Solving a smoke problem to a very exacting brief
This premium project at a thatched holiday retreat had two open fireplaces that did not work following restoration. Against an exacting design brief we specified and designed a solution around a new canopy, pot and air supply provision to create openfires that worked and looked amazing.
Unique cast iron fireplaces for London apartment.
This project involved liaising with Paris based interior designer, architects and contractor. The brief was to create a pair of slab cast irons fireplaces with an un-coated natural cast iron finish. The fires were absolutely unique and the patterns destroyed after they were made.
